The Permanent Court of Arbitration was established at the First Hague Conference held in 1899 to ensure the peaceful resolution of disputes, especially between states and international organizations. The Court consists of impartial and independent judges. It is the first international dispute resolution institution, which is important for the alternative means peaceful resolution of disputes. The court quarter is located in the Hague, Lahey however it gives access to alternatives by having offices in various cities.

This year in the Model Court Of Justice the Arbitral Tribunal of the PCA will resolve the dispute of ‘ The South China Sea’ by deciding the legal statute of the island features and validity of China’s extensive sovereignty claims, upon the application of the Philipines. The Philippines initiated the arbitration process after China established extensive dominance over the island features in the South China Sea based on its historical rights, built military bases on these features, and intervened in limiting the maritime activities of other states.
