My name is Faik Yetgin, and it is my singular honor to serve as the Secretary-General of Model Courts of Justice on its 10th year. I have been a part of Model Courts of Justice from my very first year at Ankara Law, and it has since fueled my passion for international law, which much of my legal education and extracurricular activities have so far been oriented toward.
It goes without saying that each decision one makes is influenced, in one way or another, by the person that they are. This includes every aspect of this year’s event, purposefully designed by my team and I, which reflect not only our interests and prior experience, but also our personalities.
With five moot courts on topics ranging from Maritime Law and International Trade Law to EU Law and the Law of War, what you see before you is the culmination of my research throughout my university years. From my work at a national research center and the projects I’ve partaken in, to my exchange year in Germany dedicated solely to international and comparative law, every bit of my experience in international law has contributed to Model Courts of Justice, from which my enthusiasm for the field stems.
Over the past decade, Model CJ has grown from its humble roots as a one-off simulation of the International Court of Justice in the cold halls of Ankara Law to the community of hundreds that it represents today. With the countless opportunities, memories, and friends it’s gifted me over the past four years, I can proudly say that Model Courts of Justice holds a special place in my heart, and that I have grown with it. I sincerely hope that the research and effort we’ve put into preparing this one of a kind event does its legacy justice, and that it kindles a similar infatuation with international law in you as it has done in us.
I am Zeynep Güler, a sophomore student studying at Ankara University, Faculty of Law. My journey with Model Courts of Justice started in my freshman year as a trainee of the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights. This year I will be responsible as the under-secretary-general of the International Court of Justice.
Taking part in this wonderful academic team is more than I could ever ask. For the past two years Model CJ generated a splendid chance for me to develop my academic and personal traits and will create one for you too. As a member of the Model CJ Team of 2021, I hope this year will be memorable and wholesome for you participants, as it was for me.
If encountered with any problem and have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you all in ModelCJ’21.
