International Court of Justice (ICJ), is the principal judical organ of the United Nations. The UN and the ICJ were both established in 1945 at the San Francisco Conference. Any member of the United Nations is a party to the ICJ’s statute, and nonmembers can join as well. The seats of the ICJ are located in The Hague and official languages of the court are English and French.
This year in Model Courts of Justice the International Court of Justice will make a decision upon Advirory Opinion on the Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons by considering international humanitarion law and international practice in terms of nuclear weapons. The ICJ will make its recommendation based on the question posed by the UN General Assembly in its resolution of 15 December 1996: ‘Is the threat or use of nuclear weapons permitted under international law in all circumstances?
